A Beechcraft plane crashed into a dragstrip in northern Iceland back in August. We now have video, thanks to a few GoPros mounted to a drag truck that just happened to have been lined up for a race at that exact time. You can see the plane coming in on an extreme bank and then hit the ground. You have been warned.

The pilot, a medic and one more passenger passed away. Amazingly, the co-pilot survived with "minor injuries". His time on this planet was obviously not done:

This is the Co-Pilot's second plane accident, exactly 12 years prior to the crash he had an emergency landing where the medic that died treated him for minor injuries.

According to the details on the live leak page, he had concerns about the way the captain was flying:

Investigation is still active, plane was fully functional and well maintained. This was not an emergency landing. Co-Pilot has not commented publicly but it is known that he made remarks to the Captain about the dangerous flying.

This part is a bit disconcerting:

Captain had requested a go around moments before landing at an airport close by and flew dangerously fast and low heading to dragstrip according to witnesses and crashed. Captain had close connections to the club running the dragstrip.

As you'll see, one track worker was very lucky. Again, understand what you are about to watch.

On a personal note, I have been to Iceland, and to Grimsey Island, which is the only part of Iceland above the Arctic Circle. I took a ferry to the island, but you can also fly from Akureyri airport to the small field on Grimsey. And I am pretty sure this is the plane I saw at that small airfield and doing the back and forth to the mainland.

This actually got posted here a couple of weeks ago. While I'm sad for the loss of life, I'm also pissed at the selfish pilot. Not only has he killed his crew, he has denied the community of an important rescue asset. Hubris of the highest order.

Trying to pull Maverick badass flyby in a King Air at very low altitude. Pilot was a total idiot.
